First Stollery Visit
Mika has been fighting off various bugs and virii since she started daycare. Consistently enough that we have yet to get her 12-month shots. It's been rough, but we've come through OK so far. This morning, Mika's ear was seriously gunked up from it draining through the night. Nasty business that. She was really grumpy and a bit warmer than the usual temp that she's been running more or less since January. She went to daycare anyway, but I called her doc to see how quickly I could get an appointment. Friday morning was the earliest and after describing the symptoms, it was recommended to me that I haul her in to the Stollery and not wait for the appt.. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be in there. We were out after a couple of hours with a prescription and advice to see Mika's GP about tubes for her ears. Joy. I guess if it helps her fight off infections, its a good thing. I know nothing about the process of having tubes inserted, so I have some homework to do in case this becomes a reality for the Wee Nugget. Wee. She weighed in at 22 lbs today.

Yikes, I hope everything is OK! Poor Mika.
(Theya is only 21 pounds, we could start a wee tot's club, "We Be Wee!")
Oh yeah, AND,
My nephew had nasty ear infections throughout his childhood to the point where my sister had to make him wear his ear/headband well into the warm months, despite the other kids laughing at him -if he didn't he'd get very, very sick. Eventually, a 'real' doctor referred my sister to an allergy specialist and it turned out that he had severe allergies to a few things and for some reason they manifested in ear infections. I don't know if it could be the case with Mika, but it might not hurt to have her checked for allergies....?
Barb is suseptible to ear infections also. Hope Mika is not going to be a life-long sufferer.
